E-mail Print PDF

For the  universities in South Korea, the application process for the admission of graduate programs (Master and Ph. D. programs) for Fall 2012 session will be started from late March/early April and in general closes by April/early May. The timings could be different depending on which university you are going to apply for.

It is highly recommended to contact a selected Professor of chosen university prior to the application. The research programs and contact information of the Professors could be found from the university website and his lab website.

Tips.

1. Browse as many as websites of several Professors whose research field is relevant to your interest. This is really time consuming process. You need to check out the publication list of the Professor and his lab members.

2. Select and contact at least one Professor each from some University. Write only to one Professor of a chosen University. In the case he has negative opinion about you (or no reply for more than a week), you may consider to contact second Professor of the same university.

3. If any Professor gives you a signal to apply for the graduate program, you may proceed to apply with his help or using the instructions given in the university website.

Here is a quick compilations of the admission process for top universities in South Korea

KAIST
Seoul National University
POSTECH
Korea University
Yonsei University
Sungkyunkwan University
Hanyang University
Kyung Hee University
Songang University

Korea fluency is in general not required for most of the universities. However, one may need to check out before the applications.

Remember, the direct applications to the universities are different from the NIIED _ Korean Government Scholarship Scholarship for Higher Educations in South Korea. And follow the Facebook page NIIED Scholars for more updated information. Those who have come under NIIED scholarship requires at least one year Korean Language/Cultural Education Program.

If you need personal advice from the Manipuris living in Korea, go to our forum or NIIED Scholars and ask your questions. We will try to provide as much information as we can. However, we are not in the position to contact any professor on your behalf.

Have a good luck for your applications.

Manipur - A little corner of Korea in India got lost in the midst of Korean Wave

E-mail Print PDF

According to this BBC report, the identity and culture of Manipuri has just got lost by copying the what they seen in Korean drama/movies/fashions etc !!

It is definitely true that Korean Wave is spreading all over the world in particular to the South East Asian countries. This wave is making so much influences in the life of young Manipuris in India. And we the people of Manipur living in Korea are truly concern about it and look forward to correct it.

My 10 years of experience in Korea tells me just one thing - dignity, sincerity and dedication of works. We need to transform the we copy from Korean waves and look toward a better understanding of true Korean culture and traditions. That's the foundation of the growth engine in Korea.

Dong-a Ilbo trip

E-mail Print PDF

As part of Korean language and culture program all the Level 6 students paid a visit to Dong-a Ilbo(one of popular national newspapers in S Korea) headquarters in Seoul, sometime around July 2010.

The Dong-a Ilbo (literally East Asia Daily) is a major South Korean newspaper. It was founded in 1920 by Kim Sung-soo who undertook Korea University during the Japanese occupation of Korea. Later, Kim also served as the second vice-president of South Korea in 1951. DongA Ilbo started as a nationalist paper but today it avows in its company motto to be critical and honest in reporting the news. It is also one of the three major newspapers in South Korea with a daily circulation of more than 2 million.

The headquarter has a museum which is worth looking. We were briefed by one of the staffs. After than we met the chief editor who explain us about the production of newspaper and other aspects. He also made a sample of front page with one of group photos(attached here). It was quite a good experience and a rare chance of getting an insight of newspaper while in a foreign country.
